Bedroom Makeover by Studio Kin

words from Kelsea and Sara / @studiokin_

For many of our clients, a design project starts with a small hint of inspiration. When Julianne came to us, she had just travelled to Malibu and stayed at the Surfrider Hotel. The natural textures, classic colours and overall serene feel inspired her to transform her Master Bedroom into a similar oasis.

Mind you, being a young working professional, budget is always a key factor when designing a space. We wanted to give Julianne and Andrew a timeless design that also wouldn’t cost a fortune.

We started by sourcing for our inspiration piece to which we would base remaining selections around.  This Magnolia Home Pillow was the perfect starting point. We loved how it incorporated soft colouring with rough texture. Even better, this pillow happens to be named “The Cunningham Pillow” which evidently is Julianne’s middle name, and her mother’s maiden name! How incredible. Not only was this pillow the perfect design selection, but also holds a special significance in Julianne’s heart.

From there, we began pulling together the design. We knew that adding layered linens would give it that hotel feel Julianne longed for. We worked with existing pieces and added a few more key selections for texture; simple, inexpensive additions that perfectly complimented one another.
